All copper everything

I’ve always had a taste for more Industrial themed spaces. Screed flooring, stainless steel, exposed brick walls and ducting mixed with softer accents and accessories to make the space feel more like a home than a factory. And to my delight, ever since the trend was introduced it seems like it’s not going anywhere. Matter of fact it’s just keeps getting better.

We were introduced to metallics, mainly gold and silver(stainless steel) tones in lighting, kitchen accessories and even cupboards. These are the more colder metallics, but we’ve seen warmer tones emerge and it is definitely taking over. I’m talking about the copper/brass and rose gold trend which is currently adorning most interior design magazines, stores, etc.

I just can’t get enough of it. So, if you are looking to bring an element of elegance and richness into your space wether it’s the bedroom or kitchen why not try it out? How you want to do it depends solely on your own personal taste and style. If you’re bold enough… go big. Or just add little accents and accessories for just a splash of these tones.

32000 Thank Yous … A post dedicated to 32000 views

The reason I started the blog is a bit of a strange one. I was at a point in my life where I was tired of going to a meaningless job everyday and get a meaningless salary at the end of the month. I knew that there was much more to me than what I was giving and wanted to explore that part of me that was laying dormant. And ironically enough, I discovered that it was the best part of me.

When I think back on my life I know that I know that I know that I’ve always loved interiors. I would always move around furniture and think out designs to make a space look better. I guess I thought it was just a hobby and never thought I could make a career out of it. The more I researched interior decorating and architecture(especially ancient architecture)I realised that I really loved it with a passion. I then found out that Interior Design is actually a combination of a bit of architecture and interior decorating.

I so badly wanted to take a course in Interior Design and maybe look at pursuing a career change, but I never really made it happen. I remember everything came together when I had a casual chat with a friend of mine who said it was so obvious how much I loved it as my face would instantly light up whenever I talked about it. It was as simple as that… I started reading everything I could find about Interior Design. I fell in love more and more and my passion for it just grew. As a result I would sometimes feel overwhelmed with all the beautiful images and ideas flooding my head. I had to find a way to express my excitement whenever I would see a beautiful designed space. I had to channel and process my thoughts so they were more organised and clear. And that’s how I started my blog…

32000 views later, I’ve learnt even more. And the process will never stop. I want to thank everyone for each and every view, every second taken out to visit my blog. Your views encourages me to continue and to get better. It’s not perfect yet, but I commit myself again to bring you better content with every post.

Again, a heartfelt THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart.

Thank you for visiting… Ciao!

Home office continued

Its Sunday afternoon in sunny South Africa and it feels like my favourite season, Spring/Summer is peeking through the fading winter season. You have no idea how happy that makes me. I love this time of year and for some reason I just feel so much more alive during this season.
I am also extra energetic and feel like I can take on just about everything! Which is a good thing, because I have  so much on my to-do list

Number one on that list is decorating my home office space so I can have a place which is comfortable, inspiring and most of all organised. At the moment it feels very cold and empty and does not do anything in the inspiration department.

I have an idea of what I want and how I want it to look and cant wait for it to be done. I have enclosed pictures of attractive spaces and items I would like to bring into my space.

Nice and light

I'm definitely going with black and white

Loooove the black & white pictures

Gold accessories and office stationery

I absolutely love the clipbaord idea

Home office - update

Hi everyone,

This is a quick update on the tresle desk I mentioned in my previous post. I've completed it last Saturday already, but didn't get around posting.

I must say it was much easier than I anticipated it would be. Only thing about the sealant is that I had to apply four to five coats to get the desired outcome. I am very happy with the way it came out.
Now I have to start decorating the space. I need to get a chair (which will probably be another diy project), stationery, a rug, prints for the walls, etc.

I really want the space to be beautiful and enspiring so that I will always enjoy working there. I will have to choose the items carefully and not just buy anything because I want the space completed quickly.

However, I have a few ideas and it shouldn't take long to complete the home office area. I will be sure to keep you guys updated so look out for that.

Here's the photos of the table:

Before - the two tresle stands I had

The end product!

Home office

I have been hunting down ideas for a small home office area for the past while. I’ve decided that instead of buying a new table I’m going to work with what I have. And what I do have are these two trestle stands.

My favourite go-to place for inspiration of ANY sort is Pinterest. And as per usual, when I see the sea of options, I’m torn apart and can never make up my mind what I exactly want. Since I would like to take on the project myself I have to make sure that it would be easy enough, so I chose ideas that would be easy to execute. I think I would also like to go with the basic white and wood colour scheme which I am completely crazy about at the moment. To spice things up I will add a pop of colour when I assessorize, etc.

The table in the below photo is more or less it... I think the white and wood combination goes together very well.

So, today I went to purchase the table top which is 1800(height) x 600(width) x 20mm(thick). See picture below:

I also bought x2 types of wood sealant. One in "snow white" which I will use to paint the stands and another in "clear" for the top to retain the natural wood colour but also assist with protecting the wood. I am more or less set and very excited to start the project!

I have added photos below to help with inspiration if you are on the same mission as I am. I will post pictures as soon as the table is done :-)

Thanks for reading... Ciao and see you soon !

Colour scheme sample board

Colour scheme sample board

If you will remember from my previous post, I am currently doing an Interior Designer course at The Blackford Centre for Interior Design and one of our recent assignments was to come up with a colour scheme for a room in your house and to create a sample board for it.

As no surprise to myself I decided to go with a nautical theme. These colours are my all time favourites. I think in some way they are a small part or manifestation of my personality. I absolutely love the sea. The sound of it... its light turquoise shades to the deepest blues complimented by the light blue heavens and crisp white clouds. I am captured and awed by those scenes every time and will never grow tired of it. With all this mind I guess it is easy to see why it's always going to be my favourite colours.

The best colour to compliment these different shades and tones of blue is red. That is my personal opinion. I think it brings a certain elegance and at the same time dominance to the subtleness only red can achieve.

Below is a photo of my sample board in progress ....

I've also enclosed more pictures for your extra viewing pleasure ;-)
